8 Home Renovation Trends in 2022

We’re a third of the way through 2022, and already we can see examples of simply elegant and multifunctional home renovation trends are appearing! Let’s look at some of the best below.

1) Open plan areas

Perhaps unsurprisingly as a result of the pandemic, opening up your home to feel more spacious is one of the hot home renovation trends right now. Whether it’s knocking through interior walls between your kitchen and living space, and dividing these areas with bookshelves or kitchen countertops, to replacing doors to more naturally blend the home with your garden, we are seeing a massive increase in open plan designs. In fact, ‘Rated People’ revealed that 11% of people intending to work on their homes want to create a more multifunctional space both to live in, and to work from home. We can only expect this to increase as hybrid working, and work from home options become the norm.

2)Separating space

It may seem counter productive to list separate space right next to open plan living, but the same study by ‘Rated people’ also found that 6% were looking to organise their homes more. Some popular trends so far seem to involve creating ‘book nooks’ around areas such as the bedroom, in built storage in hallways and corridors to convert unused bedrooms into home offices.

3)Natural wood panelling

Darker finishes on wood panelling seem to be gaining in popularity as whiter and lighter colours are on their way out in 2022. Giving a more natural look to your home, natural wood panelling can be installed on top of traditional brick and plaster, but we strongly recommend installing this to be left to the professionals, so you don’t end up hitting electrical wiring and coming across other installation problems.

4)3D wall panels

Perfect for multi functional homes, 3D wall panelling can provide the perfect backdrop for work meetings, whilst being able to create illusions and an etheric feel to your home. With similar issues to securely attaching the 3D panels and wood panelling, we recommend again using a professional installer.

5)Mini bar units

As we all now utilise more spaces of our home and keenly remember the closure of pubs, it is no wonder that home mini bar units have increased in popularity. Now you can entertain your friends with your own stocked selection of alcohol, or perhaps even some home brew crafting you’ve had the chance to work on! Amaze your guests and create an area for you to relax by adding an extension to your home which in part could incorporate a mini bar unit, or by commissioning us to build you an outdoor patio area for those warm summer months.

6)Hot tubs

Well, we have to make the most of it and what better way to relax on a summer’s evening than by climbing into the hot tub with your other half? You may definitely want to consider us for an outdoor area here, to ensure that you have a level foundation for this to be installed on. A modern option is to have a designated area of your garden for the hot tub, perhaps away from the usual patio area where you traditionally sit. We are seeing more and more pergolas cropping up, to enable sheltering from the rain which will inevitably come as soon as you dip your toe in the tub!

7)Outside fireplaces and firepits

What better way to create atmosphere and cosiness with your partner by relaxing in the hot tub, WHILST watching your fire burn. The benefit here is that even when it is too cold to be thinking of the hot tub or sitting out, you still have the option of cosying up around the fireplace with a hot chocolate.

8)Eco efficiency

Definitely on everyone’s mind following the announcement of energy bill increases, which may or may not rule out some certain “earlier options” you could find yourself looking at improving your home’s efficiency. There are a number of trending designs here, from installing well insulated materials into your walls, covering with a more modern finish such as Venetian plaster, or mimicking concrete or marble. Many households are also taking the opportunity to seal structural works where cold drafts come in by covering these with book crannies and storage spaces as well. There are a number of decorative ways we can help you cover the structural integrity of your home with stylish options.
