Our Interior Design Predictions for 2023

Now we’re in the new year, it’s the time to start considering how to make your home truly stand out in 2023. We’ve put together some of our top interior design predictions for the year ahead. Here they are.

An array of different coloured swatches

Meaningful objects

Whilst we are expecting interior wall decoration to fall mainly into calmer blues and natural greens, the actual design of your home is not just what we are predicting for interior home design in 2023. Family heirlooms, objects of sentimentality and items that represent who you are and what you are interested in are becoming more and more popular as home decorations. Especially with the rising trend in working from home. This could include hobbies such as ski sets hung up on the wall, older fishing rod sets, vehicle parts, or other items you may have collected from inheritance which provide an insight into you and your family’s history.

Wine displays

This one is partially based on the amount of wine you have likely collected over the Christmas period and are running out of ways to store it. We’re expecting to see more showcases of wine collections which can provide an elegant way to showcase your taste in the good stuff or even present it as a work of art. Some of the racks we have recently seen have even been wall mounted or slotted into previously unused alcove spaces.

Bold marble

Break up your kitchen with artfully placed bold marble. As reclaimed and unwanted materials are on the rise, you may be able to find smaller sections which provide a contrast of materials in your kitchen which offers a perfect storytelling point. For example, you could have wooden cabinetry, with marble countertops. This provides a touch of elegance whilst significantly reducing your kitchen remodelling price.

Organic shapes and materials

On the back of adding to objects that present meaning, why not showcase more natural shapes and materials? This could include works of driftwood, shells you have collected at the beach, fascinating stones you have collected in the countryside or near the sea. Of course, we will also be expecting objects that have the appearance of organic materials as they imbue a touch of nature in a more sophisticated manner.

Sleek appliances – like induction hobs

Space is becoming ever more important in homes, especially if you have family moving back in. That being said there is a rising trend in appliances that provide you with more space, that are sleeker and functional. One such trend is induction hobs that sit conveniently on top of an oven or kitchen countertop. They are sleeker, functional and safe which can add a bolder appearance to the top of your oven or countertop, almost creating a 3D effect.

Things that create wellness

No home is complete without objects, plants or flowers to raise your mood. Give everything ‘its place’ by adding cabinets for bathing materials, putting your work life away or drawers of items to make you feel good. If you have a terracotta, brown, or rustic brick wall you can break this up with the greenery of plants for a truly classy contrast.

More island space in kitchens

As the world has been returning to normal and we become more comfortable again with entertaining family and friends, why not show off with double island kitchen spaces? Double islands make your kitchen a focal point of interest, adds a touch of architectural flair to your home and provide space for guests to sit down without spreading out into the rest of the house if you wish. It also makes the perfect space for mealtimes with family.

A fully white kitchen with a large island as the focus

Coffee machines/stations

With more and more people working from home, you might be tempted to recreate your office space with a coffee station in the room. Prevent yourself from being disturbed, losing your creative spark or stream of thought by having coffee stations integrated into your work area.

Using reclaimed or unwanted materials for textured effects

If you have a particular style of interior design in your home, adding something out of the ordinary can draw attention to a furniture piece or new part of your walls and flooring. More and more items and materials are headed for landfill, so think about how you can help stop wastage by adding unwanted materials to create a new look in your home.

Display cabinets of treasures from markets

With current economic events, more household items are ending up in flea markets and car boot sales. Decorate your home with a cabinet full of the treasures you’ve found that represent who you are and that you’ve managed to help another human with in the second hand market economy. Of course you could also rescue vintage lighting which can add a class of sophistication to your living room, or a globe bar to house your favourite drinks.

All white kitchens

Perhaps an unexpected prediction, considering white absorbs cooking splatters and stains, many kitchens are now being used to host guests, work meetings or family and friends. Returning to all white kitchens gives the appearance of more space, and reflecting light which is simply brilliant for the summer months.

Decorative borders and stencilling

Of course adding some contrast to all white kitchens can help provide a sense of definition or a layered effect to your home. This could of course come in for a great idea for a splashback for an otherwise all white kitchen.

Curved features

For master bedrooms that do not have a partition especially, we predict to see more curved features in homes as this creates a sense of separate space. This also applies to kitchen islands as this can curve off some of the space in the kitchen whilst also providing ample seating.

Terracotta and stone

One of our largest predictions is the rise in terracotta and stone materials. Terracotta provides a warm, red, vibrant feel that also appears somewhat rustic, especially when combined with exposed brickwork. As it’s made from clay, it also adds a touch of history to your home, which can give it the appearance of being more lived in whilst still appearing modern and contemporary.
