Top Interior Design Trends for 2022

We are just ‘Spring-ing’ into March and there have already been some top new interior design trends taking the internet by storm in 2022. Let’s have a look at some of the newest crazes people are developing in their homes today.

Paint colours

Perhaps not surprisingly as we are just coming into Spring, but some of the most popular colours being vaunted so far this year include grey-green, earthy colours, citron, deep aubergine and chartreuse. Whilst grey-green, earthy and chartreuse paint offers a very seasonal approach to paint colours, some people are opting for more vibrant colours such as citron which will complement your home well into summer, and add warmth in the later colder months. Deep aubergine could be said to have the same effect with it being more of a vibrant purple, but it certainly feels more of a winter hearth colour.

Lighting

Statement lighting. With so many of us spending more time working from home or hybrid working still, it is no surprise that decorating your home in a way that describes you is becoming popular. Statement lighting is creating a unique piece or fitting for your lights. This could for example be a sculpture on your ceiling with a light for each piece, such as the dandelion in nordic style statement lighting below. Alternatively, this could more be represented by colours, objects, items, or styles such as modern light fixtures that all come together in a way that makes a statement of yours, or your loved ones’ personalities.

Exposed brick/cottage core

Perhaps closely tied in with sustainability, Cottage core transcends just an interior design trend in becoming a way of life. With more people than ever wanting to reconnect with nature, cottage core offers a simpler way of living, romanticised by ‘simpler living’ in the countryside. People engaging with this like returning to the roots of life themselves, such as baking bread, growing vegetables, gardening, sewing your own clothes. In interior design, this can involve creating cosy natural spaces or sleep sanctuaries inside your home with a rustic approach, such as exposing brickwork for the aesthetic or crittall style window frames.

Sustainability and energy efficiency

Installation of solar panels and more sustainable sources of energy and living within your home is growing to be a very popular trend. Statements such as indoor rock gardens are a way to grow plants in a stylish manner, of which plants have been proven in recent studies to uplift your mood and sense of positivity. This is also being achieved with statement lighting, and helping create a sense of spaciousness in your home to make the most of it without moving home. Converting your kitchen by using wrap-arounds, where you curve an island in your kitchen to add more space or to create another work area is becoming popular, as is building desk areas into hallways.

Hot types of extensions for 2022

Of course, housing extensions are becoming radically more popular as well, with the increase in permitted development rights. As you can now install a conservatory, front porch or extension to a kitchen area towards the rear of the house without planning permission in many cases, people are extending the style of their home with construction projects. These now join garage, attic and loft conversions that were common previously.
